St. James Day School, now serving its third generation of parishioners, is sponsored by the Vestry of St. James Parish under the direction of the rector and the Day School board. Begun as a kindergarten, the day school now serves children ages one through four in a pre-school environment.

Day School Philosophy

Childhood is a time for the development of body, mind, and spirit when lifelong values are discovered and developed into the structure for the life of the adult of tomorrow. In the preschool program, we attempt to provide a climate of love, expression, communication, and achievement. We believe that the preschool child should prepare for life by living each day enjoying, growing, using, trying, and belonging. We recognize the need for children's participation in activities and experiences that arouse their curiosity and channel their energies, their talents, their minds, and their great capacity for living. We attempt to recognize each child's uniqueness and the universal need to belong, achieve, dream, love, and be loved. Our day school is sponsored by the Vestry of Saint James Parish under the direction of the Rector and the Day School Board. We strive to offer not only a program consistent with the highest type of early childhood education but also to provide an additional dimension of the Christian faith. In all phases of our program we endeavor to provide the opportunity for the children to learn of God and to have a satisfying relationship with Him, as well as growth in appreciation and awareness of God's creations, of His love and care. Teachers and children will discover and practice Christian living together. We recognize the direct correlation between learning and the way children feel about themselves. Therefore, our goal is to help each child build a positive self-image while growing and developing physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually at their own rates. Through successful experiences at Saint James Day School, the children will build confidence in their own abilities and self-worth. Guiding the development of a child is a cooperative venture between home and school; therefore, the staff of Saint James Day School will work closely and cooperatively with parents.
