First Sundays (plus...) Tours
On the first Sunday of every month, plus some other Sundays, Ed Turberg will be available after the 11:15 service for those who would like a tour of the interesting architectural features and history of our church sanctuary. Edward F. Turberg is an Architectural Historian, Restoration Consultant, and member of St. James since 1979. He'll answer any questions you might have and he'll speak on topics such as the foundation of the faith in the Cape Fear region, construction of the first church edifice, growth of the congregation during its initial years, impact of the Revolutionary War, design and construction of the current church structure, the effect of Yellow Fever on the city, Civil War experiences, establishment of the Easter Tower Service, end of "pew rents" and initiation of the Everymember Canvass, expansion of church membership through missions. He'll start the tour at the altar rail, so join him on the first Sunday of each month, or any Sunday he's at the altar rail, after the 11:15 service.
