Altar Flower Ministry
Did you know St. James has an Altar Flowers Ministry?
You have an opportunity to remember a loved one by donating flowers to our Sunday worship services at the downtown campus. The flower arrangements on the altar add a beautiful touch, and the name of your loved one is included in the bulletin. Once services conclude on Sunday, the Flower Guild delivers the flowers to a member who is ill, recovering, grieving, or isolated.
If you would like to donate flower arrangements for use in our worship services, please call Bill McKenzie on the main church line (910-763-1628) or email him at [email protected] to see what dates are available and to reserve a spot.
Steps to Sign-up:
- Once you have reserved an arrangement date/location, you are invited to contact the florist of your choice to reserve their services, and work directly with them to secure the date, coordinate style and delivery, and provide payment. Please note that certain Sundays have liturgical guidance as to how the arrangements are to be composed – these specifications should be communicated with the florist. We are glad to answer any questions about that detail.
- The liners for the containers which will hold the flowers on the altar should be no more than six inches in diameter. Flowers should be delivered to the church and altar guild team on Saturday mornings between 9:00 am and 9:30 am. While the florist usually delivers the flowers themselves, please ensure that this delivery arrives. The Altar Guild will gladly receive the flowers and place the liners in the church vases for Sunday worship.
- If you are donating flowers in memory of more than one person with this gift, we ask that you not list more than five or six people. These details will be communicated when reserving a spot with Bill McKenzie and confirmed with you before our bulletins are printed.
The church altar in the main sanctuary holds two large arrangements with a total approximate cost of $160.
*Please see the diagram below for details regarding the height of the vase and flowers.
You are welcome to use any florist you wish. Julia’s Florist provides arrangements regularly for services in our church and is familiar with our needs and operations. They may be reached at 910-395-1868. There are a number of other florists in town, as well, who provide this service for local churches. Again, feel free to make your own contact.
If you are interested in participating in this meaningful and beautiful ministry or want to learn more, please email Bill McKenzie at [email protected] or call him on the main church line (910-763-1628).
