The Guardian Angel Prayer Experience is making a return this Lent! Signups will be open in January.

What is the Guardian Angel Prayer Experience?

This special offering is an opportunity to engage with our St. James Youth through the power of prayer. This Lenten Season, our young people are growing up in a changing and unstable world and they are trying to make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Some of them are confused, insecure, and/or lonely. All of them need all of the love, support, and encouragement they can get! The Guardian Angel Prayer Partners do just that!

If you agree to be a “Guardian Angel” during Lent, you will receive information about the young person who will be assigned to you. You may decide to gather more information by talking to their parents. Please remember to keep your identity as their “angel” a secret and to pray for them each day. While prayer is the primary focus of this program, please keep in mind that tangible expressions of your support, encouragement, and love (cards and/or notes) are needed to show your young person that you truly exist. Please write to your young person during the first week to let him/her know that you are there.

This prayer experience will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 22 and it will conclude on Palm Sunday, April 2nd. (I will remind you on March 26 to send a note revealing who you are and your thoughts about this Guardian Angel Experience.) Although your identity will not be known throughout this program, please be assured that each young person will have the comfort and joy of knowing that someone in this parish is truly their earthly “Guardian Angel.”

Please let me know by FEBRUARY 6 if you will be willing to be a “Guardian Angel” to one of our young people. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Your Guardian Angel will be investing in your life through daily prayers and notes/letters of encouragement. At the closure of our Guardian Angel Experience on Palm Sunday, March 26 YOU WILL BE ASKED TO WRITE A THANK YOU LETTER TO YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL. Please mark this date on your calendar. (Yes, I will remind you and Yes, I will send you the name & address of your Guardian Angel as our St James 2023 Guardian Angel Prayer Experience comes to an end.) There are many Guardian Angels who attend St James who have developed a unique and special relationship with “their young person!”
