On Tithing
by Bram Colonna
I remember growing up and watching my mother write a check in the church pew and putting it in the offering plate. She would also give my sister and me a dollar or two to put in the offering plate as well. While a dollar might not be much, it was to me then. For me, giving has always been important. And while I may not have always been as diligent as I should have been, it always stood out in my mind.
Now having children of my own, it’s important for me to, in turn, leave the same image in their mind and to know the importance of giving. Tithing for me and my wife is something near and dear. God provides for us, so we should repay the favor. For us, giving not only helps with the upkeep of the church, but it provides opportunities for the less fortunate both near and far.
It’s a blessing to see the impacts we can make on those around us from the gifts God has provided us.
