Outreach Spotlight: Cape Fear River Watch

The Outreach Commission is proud to share that St. James Parish has formally partnered with Cape Fear River Watch as a part of our church’s commitment to caring for God’s creation. Cape Fear River Watch (CFRW) was founded in 1993 with the mission of protecting and improving the water quality of the Cape Fear River Basin for all people through education, advocacy, and action.
St. James Parish has been named as the official sponsor of CFRW’s 2023 monthly cleanups of creeks, roadways, and railroad tracks. Each month, CFRW hosts their Second Saturday Cleanups where volunteers from the region work to divert litter and debris from entering our waterbodies. So far in 2022, volunteers have collected over 15,000 pounds of litter.
We are proud to support CFRW with our donations and human power. 2023 Second Saturday Cleanups will begin on 11 February 2023 at 9:00 am. A location will be shared closer to the date-of. You can sign up on CFRW’s website or contact parishioner David Joyner for more information ([email protected]). We ask you to pray for this collaboration and to reflect on the neighbors who share our same water sources: those upstream, those downstream, and all of God’s creatures and creation that rely on the Cape Fear River.
