St. James Day School COVID-19 Updates
Dear St. James Day School Families:
We hope this e-mail finds you and your family healthy and safe. These are challenging and anxious times that require patience, understanding and grace. St. James Day School (SJDS) and St. James Parish continue to monitor guidelines and directives regarding COVID-19 from local, state, and national authorities. This is a very difficult situation for everyone, especially those whose health, jobs, or livelihoods have been or will be impacted.
In keeping with our policy of following the New Hanover County School guidelines, SJDS is closed to in-school learning through May 15. We are delighted to announce that SJDS will remain open to remote teaching and learning through April 30, 2020. We feel that this decision is in the best interest of the SJDS students and staff.
SJDS is blessed with an incredible staff and teachers who love their jobs, love their students, and do amazing work. Our teachers are dedicated to your children and work hard to provide a safe and nurturing environment for child development and enrichment. We are as committed to our teachers and staff as they are committed to the students and community of SJDS. For this reason, SJDS will continue to pay full salaries to our teachers and staff as they work remotely through the end of April. Our payroll is approximately $22,000 per month and generally is paid with funds from monthly student tuition.
In light of all of these circumstances, we respectfully request that SJDS families make tuition payments for April as you are able. The Board recognizes that remote learning for pre-school aged children is challenging. The SJDS teaching staff will do their very best in the month ahead to engage the children and families in the learning process through innovative and creative ways. One of the most important and valued aspects of our Day School is the feeling of community. In addition to teaching, the Day School staff will encourage and nurture a continued sense of community and belonging in each class, and school-wide. Despite being physically apart, we will remain connected. When we are able, we will celebrate the Day School with a graduation ceremony for our 4’s classes and a grand school wide end-of-the year picnic, as is the SJDS tradition!
Please be on the lookout for communications from the SJDS teachers and staff. They will be in touch soon with additional information regarding remote learning for the month of April.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. In the end, we are in this together, and together we will persevere. Be safe and stay healthy.
Grace and blessings to you and your families,
The St. James Day School Board
