These are the things we do to encourage awareness and growth in the following areas:
- Cognitive development (ability to learn and solve problems): To encourage cognitive development the children play with blocks, puzzles, dolls, stuffed animals, transportation vehicles, Play-Doh, and matching and sorting games. Through our learning centers children initiate their own cooperative play.
- Social and Emotional development (ability to interact with others, including helping themselves and learning self-control): Social and emotional development is encouraged through guided free play inside and outside, sharing, taking turns, listening and paying attention during circle time, following the rules and directions during table work, creative arts and letter of the week/calendar time.
- Speech and Language (ability to understand and use language): Speech and Language development is encouraged through conversations with the teachers and each other. We especially encourage the children to use their words. We expose the children to a large variety of vocabulary through books, stories, songs and dramatic arts play. During story time we ask probing and open-ended questions like, “What do you think will happen next?” and “Why do you think he/she did that?” and “How do you think they felt when that happened?”
- Fine Motor Skills (ability to use small muscles): The children develop their fine motor skills through squeezing glue bottles, tearing paper, dressing the play figures, making shapes with Play-Doh, coloring, writing, cutting, building with small blocks, painting, threading beads and drawing with chalk.
- Gross Motor Skills (ability to use large muscles): Gross Motor skills are encouraged through movement and dancing to music and songs, and jumping and hopping while we count inside the classroom. We also use our gym to play with balls, the parachute, scooters, small bikes, plasma cars, hula hoops and more! Outside the children have full access to the playground which has a sand box filled with digging, creating and dumping toys, swings, large and small climbers, slides, a balance beam, and plenty of space to walk, run, skip and MOVE!
We are thankful to the families who share their children with us. We have created a safe, loving learning environment that will stimulate your child’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth. We strive to help your children enjoy school and the process of learning.
