Vestry Corner ~ August 2022
On July 16th, we welcomed Rev. Joseph “Gray” Hodsdon to St. James as an Associate Rector. This is indeed a happy time and we know you will join the vestry in making Gray and his wife, Catie, feel a very warm welcome to our church family! His addition to the Clergy facilitates the expansion of rich worship, outreach, fellowship, and programs for all of St. James. Welcome, Gray!
We finished July with a LOT of fun! St. James hosted a full week of “Food Truck Party” Vacation Bible School where over 60 children came to learn about how God always provides, and spent time with other youth and adults in our parish here to love and support them! During the week we focused on Bible stories involving food. Can you figure out the Bible story related to this line from one of the songs…"We get the manna in the morning and the quail every night!" A huge thanks to all of the volunteers, staff, clergy and especially Shannon Lockamy for your time, energy and dedication to make St. James VBS 2022 a great one!!
Every other month we have a “Commissions Meeting”, this meeting includes clergy, vestry and our incredible parish commission leaders. We held our most recent meeting on Wednesday, July 27th. We discuss upcoming events, ideas, compare calendars and discuss how we can work together to further the strategic plan and help all feel welcome at St. James. If you are interested in getting involved in one of the many missions, committees, or groups that make our church the “hands and feet” of God, please reach out to the Clergy, Staff, or any Vestry Member and we will help you discern the place you are called to help make a difference!
The Summer Newcomer mingle (“Hardy Party”) returns again this year after a brief hiatus and we look forward to a beautiful gathering of newcomers and parishioners. Thank you to Drs Marie and Stuart Hardy for hosting this special event.
In early August, the Vestry is headed to the Trinity Center for our mid-year retreat. We will be focusing on the upcoming year and what it will look like, how we can continue to improve how we are a neighbor to those around us. Be on the lookout in next month’s vestry corner for a reflection of our weekend together.
Finally, we wanted to pass along some generally “non-publicized” information that you may find helpful. Currently, all online donations through Realm (whether a single event/donation or a regular pledge) provided with a credit card incur a 3% fee. Even giving using ACH (bank draft) incurs a 1% fee. Obviously, this cost is part of doing business in this age and St. James does plan for these fees (through the great wisdom of our finance committee and yearly budget). However, anytime you are able to offset the cost to St. James we are able to use more money directly towards furthering the mission of our parish. In Realm, it will ask if you would like to add a small amount to offset these fees and when you are able, we encourage you to consider doing so. Of course, checks delivered to the church are always welcome as well and are not subject to such “fees” - at least not yet! Regardless of how you choose to give, we thank you for doing so; it makes so many good things happen in His name!
