Nursery
Although not formally a part of our Children’s Ministries curriculum, we have a special home for the littlest members of our parish family. Our goal is to provide a secure and happy environment for children while they and their parents/guardians worship and participate in Christian Formation and other activities at St. James.
Mission
Our goal is to provide a secure and happy environment for children while they and their parents/guardians worship and participate in Christian Formation and other activities at St. James.
Location
The nursery is located in Perry Hall closest to Bacon House. See our map of Classroom Locations.
Hours of Operation
During the Program Year, the nursery is available on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. through the conclusion of the 10:15 a.m. service. We do ask that parents promptly pick up children at the end of the worship service.
The nursery also is available during many events, such as lectures and other programs. Nursery coverage can be arranged for special events. To check nursery availability at scheduled events or to request nursery hours for special events, please contact Taber.
Illness Policy
- Children may not be brought to the St. James nursery unless they are fever-free (100 degrees Fahrenheit) and/or symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.
- Parents may be called to pick up any child who presents a fever, excessive nose drainage, coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, or other emergent illnesses.
- Please do not give a feverish/sick child fever-reducing medication (Tylenol, etc.) and send them to the nursery. This does not stop a child from becoming ill – it only masks the illness and contributes to spreading viruses.
Age Range/Ratio
The nursery provides care for infants and children up to three years of age.
Typically three to four nursery staff are available on Sundays. Staff numbers can be adjusted as needed for events.
We have a minimum adult to child ratio, which is as follows:
- For infants: 1:3
- For toddlers: 1:4
- For children age three and above: 1:6
Additional Information
Upon your arrival, nursery staff will be available to assist with the sign-in process and to answer any questions. The nursery staff will ask that parents complete a simple form that includes information on the child(ren), contact information and anticipated location for the parents. Snack cups and bottles will need to be labeled. The nursery staff also asks that parents set their phone to vibrate so they may be contacted during the services or Faith Formation.
Children of all ages may attend Children's Chapel during the 10:15 a.m. service, however, we ask that children age 3 or younger please be accompanied by an adult family member.
Christian Formation classes are also available for students aged 3 and up.
