Ministry Events
Hosting Ministry events is a key part of the Evangelism Commission’s role at St. James. These events are designed to help introduce newcomers to all St. James has to offer and to facilitate the growth of genuine relationships with others in our community and most importantly, with God. Below are some of our regular ministry events that we hope you will consider participating in.

Upcoming Events
Praying Shapes Believing Class – This inquirers’ class is designed for those new to the Episcopal church and is hosted with the support of the Clergy. Many adults participate in this class as part of their preparation and execution of Confirmation Classes. Praying Shapes Believing typically begins in January or February.
Annual Azalea Festival – Mt. Lebanon Chapel Tour – One of Wilmington’s largest annual events is the Azalea Festival, which is held in April. As part of the festival, our Evangelism Commission organizes and leads the tours of Mt. Lebanon Chapel in Airlie Gardens. They act as docents, develop handouts, and share Mt. Lebanon Chapel’s history and usage as an extension of St. James Parish downtown with festival guests. During the Azalea Festival, the Evangelism Commission normally makes contacts with 1500 – 2000 interested attendees whom we invite to come back and worship with us at church services held there during the summer months.
St. James Orientation for Newcomers (SJON) – As our Fall Faith Formation season gets into full swing, our Evangelism Commission hosts the St. James Orientation for Newcomers series! The goal of our orientation series is to help familiarize Newcomers and interested parishioners with the St. James campus history and architecture, its wonderful ministries, and even more remarkable people. SJON is usually hosted over the course of three early evening sessions, one each week for three consecutive weeks. We invite you to take part in this opportunity for Newcomers to get to know our community and hear from Clergy and Vestry.
Newcomer Mingle & Parish Meet and Greet – Our Annual Newcomer Mingle & Parish Meet and Greet provide a social “meet and greet” opportunity for newcomers. These events are held with clergy and vestry participating. Such events allow for a more casual introduction to our church leadership and the welcoming environment of St James Parish.
Tours of Downtown Campus – Each year, we host campus tours to help introduce Newcomers to the many buildings and meeting rooms at St James. Kitchens, restrooms, and the Day School facilities are included! There’s certainly a lot to see.
