Vestry Corner ~ April 2023

Twenty years ago the St. James Foundation was formed with the mission to support the needs of St. James Parish’s historic church campus in perpetuity. Claire Parker is the current chair for the Foundation Board and spoke during our most recent Vestry meeting. During the meeting we discussed and agreed to a long range plan to grow the Foundation to support the ongoing needs of the church. For reference, this year we budgeted 95k towards repairs and maintenance. Over the next five to seven years the expected capital improvement and replacement needs of our historic church campus is over a half million dollars. This is just a small part of why we are excited to create a long range plan to grow the Foundation. A well-supported Foundation will allow St. James to achieve our mission of welcoming all to grow in love of God and neighbor.
We continue to be grateful for the Safety Committee led by Bill Tallman who are diligently working on making our campus safe and accessible. Based on feedback the Nursery has been moved across the hall from its original location. So rather than sharing a wall with the cloister, it is now directly across in a more interior room. We are working on the best way to allow access and will update with any changes. For now, knocking on the ‘Day School Entrance’ door or asking an usher or greeter if you need help finding the nursery are appropriate.
Thank you to all who participated in and contributed to the Lenten Wednesday night suppers. A special thank you to Brandon Tully for spearheading these wonderful gatherings of our parish family. Over 100 parishioners of all ages gathered on these evenings and it was a beautiful time of fellowship, friendship and more proof of the family that is St. James Parish.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions, concerns or ideas.
