St. James Parish is deeply involved with the community. Opportunities abound for those who wish to live Christ's mission to "Love your neighbor as yourself." Our Outreach programs include but are not limited to:
Rise Against Hunger

Angel Tree Project
This is an annual Christmas project in which parishioners purchase gifts for needy children.
Blessings Week is an annual St. James Parish tradition, where the week before the Thanksgiving holiday, we collectively reflect on our own blessings and give back to our community in a meaningful way. Projects with items collected throughout the week can be dropped off at the church on Sunday or throughout the week.
Episcopal Farmworker Ministry
In partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and East Carolina, we assist with food and clothing for the immigrant workers at Newton Grove.
Good Shepherd Center
St. James supports Good Shepherd Center, a local non-profit whose mission is to end homelessness in Wilmington. Volunteering opportunities include: serving food to guests and neighbors, food delivery and pickup, & helping check-in neighbors staying in the night shelter.
St. James supports the work and ministry of the Help Hub. The Help Hub programs help meet the emergency needs of individuals referred by the center's partner organizations and local churches.
St. James, along with the Lower Cape Fear Deanery, supports all efforts of Hurricane Relief. Especially efforts within our local community.
Meals on Wheels
During months with a 5th Sunday, volunteers prepare, package, and/or deliver meals to homebound individuals and families in our community.
St. James supports Nourish North Carolina, a local non-profit feeding ministry that sends food home with children in local schools.
The St. James Parish Outreach Committee spreads God's love through community ministries through financial support and hands-on support.
Our parish gift shop is open on Sundays during the Christian Formation hour and offers a variety of gift items. All profits go to St. James Parish outreach programs.
Episcopal Church Women
St. Anne's Guild is a group of men and women who meet (Sept. – May) with a primary mission of spreading the love of our Lord Jesus Christ by reaching out to those in need. Monthly programs complement this mission. During Lent, St. Anne's Guild holds weekly meetings, followed by a group lunch.
If you are interested in serving or would like to know more about these and the many other ways St. James' parishioners serve the greater Wilmington area, please contact the Rev. Chris Hamby or call our office.
