St. James Parish Shop

Did you know that the Parish Gift Shop is celebrating its 18th year serving St. James Parish and the Wilmington community?

Did you know that the Parish Gift Shop has given over $30,000.00 in those 18 years to outreach in our community! THAT IS PRETTY AMAZING especially considering we are only open 1.5 hours on Sunday mornings from September through May. How could we have accomplished this? We are proud to say that this is singularly achieved through the patronage of our shop. We realize that for such a small space we have created a huge impact for our community. We could not have achieved this milestone without the support of the parish, our supporters and our volunteers. We want to REMIND the parish of our mission.

As we look forward to the time when we will gather in fellowship, Bible study and worship together, The Parish Shop is stepping out in faith – just like we did 18 years ago and RENEWING our commitment to St. James and our outreach partners. The Parish Shop’s mission over these years has been to support Women, Children, and Family outreach projects and we shall continue that pledge.

We are very excited about some changes that we are planning. Firstly we would like to make the space function more efficiently so that our visitors will have a better shopping experience. We will be carrying some new products, some North Carolina-based products, and of course some of your favorites that you have come to depend on finding at the shop.

We want to REFRESH our space, get a fresh coat of paint, spruce up a little bit, and make the space function better for the volunteers with better storage.

We want to add a space where we will sell soups, casseroles, your favorite ham biscuits, and other delicious treats with a small freezer in the shop. We hope to create a group of volunteers that will help with this ministry. Looking down that road, we are hopeful that we can increase our volunteer base to be open one or two days during the week for a couple of hours.

We are very interested in asking for feedback as to what you might like to see in the Parish Shop. As always we shall try our best to serve our community. We welcome volunteers who would like to share in this ministry or perhaps you have a talent that we would love to highlight. We feel so blessed to have a parish so gifted, talented, creative, and giving!

The Parish Shop has some exciting plans looking forward and we are very much in need of the parish to help create our vision for the future. We would like to ask the parish to help us with continuing our outreach mission and ask our parishioners for $8,000.00 seed money to help us start our very ambitious plans. We are planting this seed so that we may continue to GROW our outreach mission for the next 18 years.

On behalf of all who have made this happen, volunteers, contributors of talent, parish support, and especially those who we have touched through our outreach efforts THANK YOU for helping us plant this seed for the future.

Hi, my name is David Joyner came to St. James in the summer of 2020 when I moved to the Wilmington area after law school. I grew up in eastern North Carolina outside of Goldsboro. I went to UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad and worked for the United Methodist Church’s public policy agency in Washington, DC before returning to NC and attending Campell University’s School of Law. I worked as a criminal prosecutor before recently joining the Lea/Schultz Law Firm as a litigator. I am an avid amateur chef and excited about Outreach ministries like Meals on Wheels and St. James’ budding relationship with the Northside Food Co-Op.

Hi my name is Taber Stockstill-Tornes! I was born and raised in Oklahoma, just outside of Oklahoma City. I went to the University of Oklahoma where I got a degree in Human Relations. Fiddled around in OKC a bit, backpacked in Europe a bit, then met my husband, Kevin. We lived in Chicago from 2016-2020. There I became a doula, something I’m very passionate about. Long story short, we moved to Wilmington in September 2020 and had a little boy, Howie, in October 2021! If you want the long story, please come say hi! We love getting to know knew people. I’m so excited to be at St. James!

Living Well in the Midst of Grief

Monday, July 18, 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

1st and 3rd Mondays | 5:00-6:00 PM | Graham Parlor or via Zoom

When someone you love dies, you experience grief in a number of ways and one size does not fit all. The way we react to and process grief depends on the relationship, manner of death, if and how you were able to say goodbye, your beliefs, your background, and your personality.

We also grieve many things other than death and we want to acknowledge this also. There is grief that comes from loss of a health, loss of a job, sending a child off to school, losses that come from divorce, to mention a few.

Please reach out to the Rev. Cheryl Brainard at [email protected] for more information.

Christian Formation for children endeavors to support and supplement the family's efforts to raise children as followers of Christ. Children's Formation includes Sunday classes as well as seasonal festivals and intergenerational events. Preschool ages 2 to 5 years, and grades 1 through 5 use a lectionary-based curriculum enhanced with art and music. Middle school classes include confirmation preparation and current event issues.
